College Essay Advising Service

The Essay

The college essay should be considered an opportunity for students to differentiate themselves from other candidates for admission. The essay must offer insight into the candidate's unique perspective on the world and at the same time be solidly written and dynamic.

Services

Depending on your needs, choose one of three tiers of service: Comprehensive ($600); First Draft ($400); Final Edit ($200). The Comprehensive service takes the student from "the blank page" to completion and includes three advising services; brainstorming ideas; first draft review; final draft review; final draft edit. The First Draft service offers two sessions (first draft review and final draft edit), and the Final Edit service includes one session. For all levels of service, students will receive feedback and suggestions on concept, content and style. All levels of service also include close line editing.

All essay advice is handled by Carl Pelofsky, an expert in the field.

Mr. Pelofsky is a graduate of Harvard University and has a master's degree in English Literature and Composition. For fifteen years he taught English and held administrative posts (Head of Upper School, Academic Dean, Assistant Head of School) at Barstow School and Pembroke Hill School in Kansas City. He has worked with applicants on more than 1,000 essays in his time as an advisor.
